A small group of people are brought to an eery, deserted town. A 20-year long friendship and a past similarly marked by tragic events unite Ben, a European filmmaker, and Negi, an Indian Buddhist. Fascinated by the possibility of finding in Negi a spiritual guide to come to terms with death, Ben relives and shares his personal story. His journey leads him to deal with the role life has given him, closely linked to his relationship with his father. As the impossibility of finding clear and definitive answers becomes apparent, the deeply human need to accept death emerges, transcending cultural, religious, and geographical barriers.

"Il testimone" (i.e. The witness) is a tv show created, made and presented by Pif. Every episode consists of a "mini-reportage", filmed through a little camera that Pif brings himself. This makes the spectator feel as if most of the tv filtres are removed and thus they can almost witness the events with their own eyes and feel directly involved in the social messages brought on by the show. Themes vary: they go from interviews to famous individuals, to trips, to the work of associations or even small everyday realities.

With his family mired in financial troubles, Domenico moves to Milan, Italy, from his small town to get a job in lieu of furthering his education. A lack of options forces him to take a position as a messenger at a big company, where he hopes to receive a promotion soon. There, Domenico meets Antonietta, a young woman in a similar situation as himself. The two form a tentative relationship, but the soulless nature of their jobs threatens to keep them apart.

In the year 1999, a young woman leaves her quaint seaside house and returns to the city, leaving in the mailbox a card for the next owner, with instructions to forward any mail of hers to the new address. In the year 1997, a jaded young architect moves into the same house and finds the letter. His reply, which he slips into the mailbox, finds its way to her, beginning a parallel-time love story separated by a span of two years.
